This book opens with delicate classical music and a mysterious door opening ... to the words, "A Gobberwobbly lives in this house." This mysterious creature is at the heart of why socks go missing or get holes in them, according to the story. The Gobberwobbly is a lyrical tale accompanied by beautiful harp music and lush illustrations.

A Gobberwobbly is a creature that lives in every house, eating those missing socks we all wonder about. But the creature can be tamed into a loving pet who grows up and eventually has to leave home, becoming "moody and meditative" in the process (like a real teenager). On about every other page there are interactive elements, like lights that turn on and off, socks that pop up in the air, butterflies that emerge from a field, wind-blown leaves and even a scene where the Gobberwobbly's nails pop off to the sound of scissors clipping.

The story has a quiet quality, with even a bit of falling snow in one scene (hint: tap the snow for a neat effect). While not especially animated, the scenes are zoomed in and out to give it a nice semi-animated quality that is paired beautifully with the musical soundtrack. You can even personalize the book on the first page. It has an electronic bookplate that allows you to actually hand-write a name (or anything else) on a line below the words, "This Book Belongs To:".

Overall, this is a well made book, although I did have trouble with a few of the interactive elements. The washing machine page asks you to 'spin me' but this often accidentally turned the page and rarely got the washer moving at all. The sound is also delightful but has a slight bit of interference or static when turned to full volume.

Otherwise this is a sweet book with gorgeous illustrations, music and relaxing story perfect for bedtime reading. The story is particularly adorable, explaining the mystery of socks disappearing on the surface while telling a tale more symbolic of parenting a human child to adulthood and letting go. Thankfully the Gobberwobbly, "will still love you forever and ever, even if he never sees you again."
