Change the text & add your own narration ...

This short but cute storybook from Auracle is personalizable, with text and narration that can be customized. It features a story about a little boy who loves cars and gets a life-size model in the mail. Edsel McFarlan builds his car and then rides it all over town, scaring his neighbors and creating chaos along the way. Based on the popular print title published in July 2010, this book has a lot to offer in digital form.

The app features charming illustrations with lots of detail. The story is told in pictures as much as words, making it an ideal title for children to re-write as a way to build their own storytelling skills. This book is also lightly interactive, featuring images that name themselves when tapped. For instance, tap on the little boy to see & hear the words "Edsel McFarlan". A few items in every scene are included, like the car, sky, trees, etc.

The app is solidly made with intuitive settings for recording narration and changing the story. It also has simple swipe-style page turning and an easy to read font that highlights with the default narration. You can also swipe from the top to go back to the first page or swipe up from the bottom of the page for a nice page guide, although you might not notice this feature right away.

Overall this is a delightful little story enjoyable for both children and their parents. It has great illustrations, a fun storyline and just a touch of interactivity to please little fingers. It is also one of several unique titles from Auryn, Inc. that offers the opportunity to go beyond the story, allowing the reader to re-write the text in anyway they like.

All reviews are of the app, not the platform/device. Based originally on iPad versions. Minor technical details may vary.

Story Synopsis - Auracle - Edsel McFarlan's New Car

Edsel McFarlan is a little boy that loves cars. One day he orders a kit to build his own car. He puts his 'model' car together painstakingly until one day it's almost done. It is so realistic and life-size that he decides to ride it down the hill near his house. It has almost everything a real car has ... except brakes!

He goes on a wild ride through town, creating havoc everywhere he goes, scaring his neighbors as he plows through everything. Everyone hopes it is just a 'phase' ... and they may have been right. His new obsession is a model for a rocket ship. Oh, no! The end.
