Roxie's a-MAZE-ing Vacation Adventure

The Digital Media Diet

Based on the print maze books by Roxie Munro!

Based on the print books by Roxie Munro, this game app is a unique title that offers literally hours of entertainment to children (and adults) with a variety of challenges that require attention to detail and problem solving skills. Search & find titles have been popular in print for a long time, but this one is even more engaging in digital form. It is hard to believe these images weren't originally designed for the iPad.

There are 16 different segments to the map that you can drag a little car through or even get out and walk to explore. The illustrations are delightful and so detailed that you notice something new with every replay of this extraordinary title. Offering enormous replay value, this little app can keep a child occupied for hours.

The talented author/illustrator Roxie Munro brought her print maze books to children over the past decade. I was not surprised to find almost all 5-Star reviews on Amazon.com for her assortment of titles. As a game app, these images are even more fun and have a level of challenge that even adults will find engaging. Children are rewarded for paying attention to fine details within each map, making it a learning app, too. Expect young children to need some assistance to complete the entire maze, but there really is something to love for players of all ages.

The game is solidly made with intuitive directions (including slots for five different players) and easy navigation by bringing your car (or person) to the edge of any road/path. The app also has upbeat background music that can be turned off using the device's volume control. Overall, this app is an amazing value, providing a challenging game even for adults. It is an app that can be shared or played alone and one of my family's favorites. Expect children to spend a lot of time pouring over the pages, just like they would with a print maze book. Highly recommended!

All reviews are of the app, not the platform/device. Based originally on iPad versions. Minor technical details may vary.
