Duncan is a dog with a purpose, visiting patients in the hospital to help them feel better. And he's part of a diverse family where everyone has important work they love to do. Based on the fun print title published in 2007, this app features lots of great enhancements, including the ability to fully personalize the story and record your own narration.
The app features charming illustrations with lots of detail. The story is told in pictures as much as words, making it an ideal title for children to re-write as a way to build their own storytelling skills. This book is also lightly interactive, featuring images that name themselves when tapped. For instance, tap on Duncan to see & hear the words "Duncan Dog". Lots of items in every scene are included, like toys, backback, nurse, etc.
The app is solidly made with intuitive settings for recording narration and changing the story. It also has simple swipe-style page turning and an easy to read font that highlights with the default narration. You can also swipe from the top to go back to the first page or swipe up from the bottom of the page for a nice page guide, although you might not notice this feature right away.
Overall this is a delightful little story enjoyable for both children and their parents. It has great illustrations, a heart-warming storyline and just a touch of interactivity to please little fingers. It is also one of several unique titles from Auryn, Inc. that offers the opportunity to go beyond the story, allowing the reader to re-write the text in anyway they like.
All reviews are of the app, not the platform/device. Based originally on iPad versions. Minor technical details may vary.
