Finding Frankie Frog is an adorable storybook in digital form, featuring light animation and interactivity that enhances the story. For a free app, this is an extraordinary find! But even if it were a paid download, this book app has a lot to offer, including puzzles and a fun storyline that children will enjoy.
The story follows the hide 'n seek game of 6 friends: Billy Beaver, Pinky Pig, Elvis Elephant, Robbie Rabbit, Harry Hedgehog and Frankie Frog. In just five short pages, this delightfully interactive title has the group of friends playing a game where they try to find each other's hiding spots. As each character finds one of the friends, the person who is 'it' and everyone who has been found then goes on to the next page to find the next hidden character.
Simple but cute animations can be found with nice hints (that can also be turned off). Most of these animations are not especially story-related, however each page does have one vital interactive element, where one tap reveals the previously 'concealed' animal. After each character has been discovered, they say, "concealed, but still revealed!" with reference to their ears, trunk, snout, etc. Text is relatively easy to read, although it does not highlight as it is narrated.
There is also one very simple but well made extra, a puzzle of one of the pages, available in three difficulty levels: 6, 12 or 20 pieces. This app is also solidly made with lots of easy to use settings that allow you to navigate through the app. There is even a recording option for your own personalized narration, a very achievable goal for this very short title.
Overall, this is a lovely app, especially as a free download. But even if it were to become a paid app, this book is adorable, featuring a cute hide 'n seek story where children can actively 'find' each of the hiding animals. The text is well-crafted, if a bit wordy, and llustrations are beautifully detailed. Recommended!

The animals (an elephant, pig, beaver, rabbit, hedgehog AND frog). Billy Beaver is looking for Pinky Pig, and finds her hiding in the bathtub under a big pile of bubbles. He also, oddly enough, also looks in the toilet. The two friends now try to find Robbie Rabbit. They find him quickly, by looking in the toy box.
Next the three friends head out to find Elvis Elephant, finding him in a trunk in the attic. Now the four friends head out to find Harry Hedgehog. Saying the familiar line with an item of the body, like spines, trunk, ears & snout, "concealed, but still revealed!" ... the friends find Harry easily hiding behind a cactus.
The five friends are supposed to find the last of the friends hiding, but instead they suggest that they all go for a swim ... but, "Wait a moment," says Elvis. "Where's Frankie Frog?" At that moment, Frankie pops up from the swimming hole they were about to jump into, saying, "I'm so well concealed, I'm the last to be revealed!"
