Rowdy Raccoon and the Turtle Who Wanted to Fly is based on the book of the same name by Donna C. Braymer and illustrated By Shachi Kale. It was published in print in 2009. It is beautifully illustrated and the interactive features are incredible.

The narration options in this app are excellent. The ability to write your own text for the story particularly appealed to me. It is not one I have personally used before. The voice over capabilities we see from time to time, but the added feature of changing the text on each individual page as well is a huge bonus. It allows the parent or caregiver to adapt the storyline to suit the language capabilities of each user. However if you change the written text make sure to add your own voice over as well to the new text.

Auryn Inc have also included a page menu which can be pulled up on each page making it easy for the user to select a specific page. Highlighted text is used extensively throughout the app. If the user touches various interactive features on the page such as the leaves, the word is spoken and the text flashes on the screen also.

Rowdy Raccoon and the Turtle Who Wanted to Fly is an app that everyone should have in their collection. My children loved the interactive features of the app and by the end of the story each of them set out to find out what their own unique talent is. It shows the reader that everyone has their own strength and talents. This is an important point that comes into play on a regular basis when dealing with our Special Needs children, particularly when we are trying to encourage them to see and use their own unique talents . The app is just one of many in the great Auracle collection.

Based on opposite sides of the world, Teriann is Australian and Julie-Anne lives in Ireland, they are joined by SLP Jean (US) and the team of Super-mums Niamh (US), Elaine (IRE) and Mary (IRE).

Between them, they have a wealth of experience with kids and apps. As parents of Special Needs Children, they know how difficult it can be to find the right app for your child. They hope to make this a little easier by providing reviews and also showcasing the Developers who make the apps.
